The International Association of Broadcasting (IAB) deeply mourns the passing of Mr. Rigoberto Ubina Pinto

The International Association of Broadcasting (IAB) expresses its deepest sorrow over the passing of Mr. Rigoberto Urbina Pinto, which occurred today in the Republic of Costa Rica.

Mr. Urbina Pinto played a fundamental role in the creation and development of the Cámara Nacional de Radiodifusión (CANARA), an institution he presided over for five terms between 1982 and 1992. His leadership and vision were essential pillars in the consolidation of CANARA as a leading organization in Central America and across the continent.

He was also a steadfast and unwavering defender of freedom of expression and free enterprise, unconditionally committed to broadcasting and to the defense of Costa Rican identity through the airwaves.

Remembered and admired by his colleagues for his deep vocation for broadcasting, Mr. Urbina Pinto also stood out for his human qualities, generosity, and constant willingness to support those in need.

IAB extends its most heartfelt condolences and expresses its solidarity to Mr. Urbina Pinto’s family, friends, and colleagues, to the Cámara Nacional de Radiodifusión (CANARA), and to Costa Rican society as a whole during this time of mourning.
