The International Association of Broadcasting (IAB) is honoured to inform its members that it has received a letter from María Corina Machado, who was recently awarded the 2025 Nobel Peace Prize. In her letter, Ms Machado expresses her deep gratitude for the IAB's congratulatory message on receiving such a high distinction.
Ms Machado highlights in her communication that the IAB's recognition of the 'historic feat of the Venezuelan people' provides encouragement and moral support in the struggle for freedom, democracy and human rights. She also emphasises that 'the path to peace is freedom' and reaffirms her commitment to working alongside the Venezuelan people for a peaceful and permanent transition to democracy.
The IAB, which for almost eight decades has represented the private, free, and independent media in the Americas, reaffirms its solidarity with the Venezuelan people and its ongoing commitment to defending freedom of expression, media independence, and the right of citizens to be informed.
Likewise, IAB hopes that Venezuela will soon recover democracy and that its people will be definitively free, within a framework of respect for human rights and the universal values that sustain peace.
