IAB supports CANARA’S position in defense of broadcasting in COSTA RICA
The International Association of Broadcasting (IAB) expresses its solidarity with the National Broadcasting Chamber of Costa Rica (CANARA), which has reiterated the need for radio and television concessions to be extended in accordance with the Broadcasting Law and the 2008 General Telecommunications Law.
The IAB reaffirms that disregarding legal certainty and acquired rights undermines the normal development of broadcasting, which is a private activity of general interest and essential to democracy.
We also recall that decisions on concessions must be made in strict accordance with the Constitution, the law and international treaties on freedom of expression, while ensuring due process is respected.
The IAB urges the Costa Rican authorities to guarantee a stable legal framework that preserves the
continuity and independence of the media.
