The International Association of Broadcasting (IAB) strongly condemns the murder of Mexican journalist Ángel Sevilla, which occurred in Ciudad Obregón, Sonora, while he was carrying out his reporting duties.
This heinous crime once again highlights the grave insecurity faced by journalists in Mexico, one of the most dangerous countries in the world for the press.
IAB urgently calls on the Mexican State to investigate this crime swiftly and thoroughly, to identify and punish those responsible, and to adopt effective measures to guarantee the safety, integrity, and freedom of expression of journalists and media outlets throughout the country.
Protecting the press is protecting democracy.
