Institutional visits by AIR-IAB President Dr. Paulo Tonet Camargo

On August 12 and 13, the President of the International Association of Broadcasting (IAB), Dr. Paulo Tonet Camargo, conducted a series of institutional visits in the Argentine Republic and the Oriental Republic of Uruguay, as part of the Association’s strategic repositioning process and the advancement of new initiatives aimed at strengthening its work in defense of freedom of expression, the fight against piracy, regulatory balance in relation to Big Tech, and the economic sustainability of the media.

On August 12, in Buenos Aires, the President of AIR-IAB held important meetings with our Institutional Members, the Argentine Association of Television and Radio Broadcasters (ATA) and the Argentine Association of Private Broadcasters (ARPA), to whom we extend our special thanks for their hospitality.

During the meetings, Dr. Tonet presented the main initiatives and activities that AIR-IAB plans to carry out during the upcoming month of October, a particularly significant occasion for the Association as it celebrates its 80th anniversary, coinciding with the commemoration of the centennial of radio broadcasting in the Dominican Republic. The meetings were attended by directors and executives of both associations.

That same day, the President of IAB also met with representatives of private companies to introduce them to the Association, invite them to join IAB, and encourage their participation in the activities planned for October.

On August 13, in Montevideo, Dr. Tonet visited IAB’s Central Office, which is also the headquarters of our Institutional Member ANDEBU, where he met with the Central Office team to continue advancing the organization and preparations for the October events.

He subsequently participated in a working luncheon with the President of ANDEBU and Vice President-Treasurer of IAB, Dr. Rafael Inchausti; IAB Honorary Member and former Council Member Omar Sosa; and former Director General, Honorary Member and current Advisor to IAB, Dr. Héctor Oscar Amengual.

These meetings represent another step forward in the Association’s strategic repositioning process and also provided an opportunity to exchange perspectives on the challenges currently facing the media in the region.

IAB will continue to strengthen dialogue and joint efforts with its members and to promote initiatives that contribute to the development and defense of private, free, independent, and sustainable broadcasting.
