Second journalist killed in Mexico so far in 2025

The International Association of Broadcasting (IAB), which represents more than 17,000 radio and television stations in the Americas, strongly condemns the murder of journalist Alejandro Gallegos León, who disappeared last Friday in the southern Mexican state of Tabasco and was found dead on Saturday, January 25.

Alejandro Gallegos was the editor of the weekly La Voz del Pueblo, a columnist for the daily Tabasco Hoy, and a professor at the state's Universidad Juárez Autónoma.

IAB reiterates the need to guarantee the safety of journalists and fight against impunity as fundamental measures to protect freedom of expression.

IAB expresses its solidarity with the family and colleagues of Alejandro Gallegos and makes an urgent appeal to the Mexican authorities and public institutions to take immediate measures to identify and bring to justice those responsible for this crime.
