The International Association of Broadcasting (IAB), which represents more than 17,000 radio and television stations in the Americas, strongly condemns the murder of journalist Gastón Medina Sotomayor, owner and director of Cadena Sur TV, which occurred in the city of Ica, in southwestern Peru.
IAB stresses the urgency of guaranteeing the safety of journalists and the need to combat impunity as fundamental measures to protect freedom of expression and strengthen democracy.
IAB expresses its solidarity with the family and colleagues of Gastón Medina Sotomayor and urges the Peruvian authorities to take immediate measures to identify and bring to justice those responsible for this crime.
