The International Association of Broadcasting (IAB) participated in the 10th Presidential Dialogue, titled “Latin America and the End of Its Dictatorships”, held on Wednesday, November 12, 2025, at the Wolfson Campus of Miami Dade College, in Miami, United States.
This high-level event brought together prominent figures from the political, academic, and diplomatic spheres across the Americas and Europe, and counted with the presence of the Director General of IAB, representing the Association in this important space for dialogue on democratic challenges in the region.
The opening remarks were delivered by Miami Dade College President, Ms. Madeline Pumariega, and Mr. Nelson J. Mezerhane Gosen, Trustee of the IDEA Democrática Foundation and Editor of Diario Las Américas. The keynote address was delivered by Dr. Asdrúbal Aguiar, Secretary General of the IDEA Group, followed by the inaugural speech of 2025 Nobel Peace Prize Laureate, Ms. María Corina Machado.
Former presidents who participated included José María Aznar (Spain), Jamil Mahuad (Ecuador), Jorge Tuto Quiroga (Bolivia), Álvaro Uribe (Colombia), Federico Franco (Paraguay), Luis Alberto Lacalle (Uruguay), Hipólito Mejía (Dominican Republic), Andrés Pastrana (Colombia) and Luis Almagro, former Secretary General of the OAS.

As a conclusion, the panelists made an urgent call to defend democratic values worldwide and to intensify international efforts to restore democracy and human rights in Cuba, Nicaragua, and Venezuela, as well as to combat organized crime linked to drug trafficking and violence across the region.
The IAB reaffirms its unwavering commitment to freedom of expression, democracy, and the rule of law, which are essential pillars for the future of Latin America.
